My new favourite place
“This is my new favourite place.” That statement comes out of my mouth about two or three times a month. I’m a bit dramatic, easily exciteable and generally get bored pretty easily. Hence why I proclaim every other week when in a new restaurant (or being introduced to a new menu from an old restaurant) that I’ve just found my new favourite place.
So begins this section of my blog to help people who are visiting London or keen to try new places. So far, I’ve written about four restaurants which, at the time, I deemed as ‘my new favourite place,’ so I thought you should see them here. They include: Wahaca for authentic Mexican food fast (and a shot of tequila), Vinoteca for a great wine bar with a fun, cozy atmosphere and delicious food, Leon for the world’s best superfood salad and London’s best hummus, and The Veggie Table for a seriously heavenly veggie burger made with halloumi cheese.
Currently I’m loving Pizza East. You might note that I worked there for about four months (temporary moment of insanity thinking it would be fun to juggle two jobs!). I’ve tried every single pizza on the menu and most are very good, but the one and only pizza which I’ve never seen before is the smoked salmon pizza. I was very judgemental of this little pizza at first. How could raw, cold, smoked salmon on a pizza be good? Well, let me tell you, it is delicious.
Made with a thin layer of sweet tomato sauce, sprinkled with capers and layered with thin slices of smoked salmon, it is then topped with chunks of ricotta cheese, chives and fresh lemon juice. It is light and refreshing, and it gets the job done of a salmon and cream cheese bagel but it’s better because it lasts longer.
For £10 to share between two people with a couple of the East End’s best bloody marys, I’d say the smoked salmon pizza makes for a perfect Sunday. That is, until I find the next greatest place for brunch in London…
